Marking the end of summer in Door County Labor Day weekend is always bitter sweet. Filled with fun and laughter as the kids have one last hurrah before they head back to school. As we start to prepare for a slower paced fall it brings to mind the beautiful colors that door county has to offer. No mater the season, the weather or the holiday there is always a reason to come to Door County. The Beachfront Inn is now open through Thanksgiving and is the perfect spot for a fall getaway.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Beachfront Inn with my two daughter’s (9&12), from Aug 11th-15th. We were scheduled to check out on the 14th but decided to stay another night, luckily they had another room available. The staff there really makes you feel at home. They are so friendly and go out of their way to accommodate you. The extra day we stayed we had to switch rooms, ours was booked, but they moved all of our stuff to our new room so we could venture out. The rooms are very nice and clean, but a little noisy. They have a bonfire every night (depending on the weather), you can buy a bag with stuff to make smores and they provide roasting sticks for your use. There is also a cool second floor deck that is beautiful to watch the sunset if you don’t like to sit by a bonfire. They have two paddle boards you can use for free. The beach is very clean and the sand is very soft. It is a little rocky when you first walk in the water but then it is very nice sand and the kids enjoyed looking for little rocks for souvenirs. The pool was also nice and was warm, which was great on one of our colder days. They also had floaties to us while at the pool (which we actually left our purple raft there for future guests!) They have towels to use for the pool and beach and they are nice and large. We are already planning our return trip for next year! It is centrally located, so Fish Harbor, Sister Bay, Egg Harbor, Whitefish Dunes, Ephraim, are all 15-20 mins away. So happy we picked this place and had a great vacation because of this place.

This upcoming weekend is Door County’s annual Half Marathon. For the serious runners this means a 21 kilometer loop on the beautiful trails of Peninsula State Park, for the casual runner they offer a 5k late morning along the shores of Nicolet Bay and for hundreds of spectators this means cheering on their family and friends. Packet pick up and runner check-in is Friday May 3rd at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall from 1-9 pm or Saturday May 4th 8-9:30 am at the runner concourse in Nicolet Beach. Treat yourself to waterfront lodging in Door County before or after the race by booking a room at the Beachfront Inn. We have a simple breakfast every day but have an extra protein packed breakfast meal planned for our runners on Saturday. Once your run is complete come back to your room to relax and unwind to the sound of the waves. Baileys Harbor has some spectacular places to dine within walking distance of the Beachfront Inn. After dinner head over to Door County Brewery for micro-brews and live music!

These kids have been doing the 5k with their Aunt Shana and Uncle Jordan for years now!
